Mexico City, one of the largest megacities in the world has now the largest bike rental service in Latin America with more than 6,000 bikes. Ecobici also has launched campaigns to encourage cycling and other non-motorized transport options. Today, out of every 1000 residents, there are 187 trips made by bicycle and the efforts on the system will continue to expand.
“This year and in the upcoming year we are going to concentrate on investing in more bike lanes and parking areas for those who own their own bikes. Those who need to ride to reach the subway will be able to leave their bikes there with the assurance that they will still be there when they return,”-Tanya Müller, Mexico City’s environmental chief
