“This is how public-private partnerships should be done,” said Commissioner Steve Novick. “We have developed an innovative, next generation bike share system. And in Nike, we have a sponsor that is a brand powerhouse and a global leader in innovation with a long and distinguished record of supporting sports and physical activity in Portland. It’s a perfect fit.”
The bike share system placed in Portland with Nike is marketed as fun, affordable and convenient and has already 1,000 bicycles and 100 stations in the city. During the first day, the bike sharing system already had more than 1,400 signed up members for an annual membership which allows them to use them conveniently across the city. The city has now also added a new to-do for city visitors since Portland is considered “America’s Bicycle Capital”and therefore the city has installed cycling city maps.
