New Bike Share System in Portland sponsored by Nike

As member of the EcoMobility Alliance, Portland, USA is engaged in providing quality sustainable urban mobility to its citizens. Bike shares systems offers bicycles to ride from one place to another for a small fee and is an excellent complement to urban mobility in cities. There are more than 500 cities around the world with bike sharing systems which have proven to be safe and efficient in providing convenient urban mobility and promoting a shift from private vehicles. The city has partnered with with the private sector to deliver a high quality bike share system. BIKETOWN, the name of the bike share system sponsored by NIKE has now been launched in Portland this July 2016.

“This is how public-private partnerships should be done,” said Commissioner Steve Novick. “We have developed an innovative, next generation bike share system. And in Nike, we have a sponsor that is a brand powerhouse and a global leader in innovation with a long and distinguished record of supporting sports and physical activity in Portland. It’s a perfect fit.”

The bike share system placed in Portland with Nike is marketed as fun, affordable and convenient and has already  1,000 bicycles and 100 stations in the city. During the first day, the bike sharing system already had more than 1,400 signed up members for an annual membership which allows them to use them conveniently across the city. The city has now also added a new to-do for city visitors since Portland is considered “America’s Bicycle Capital”and therefore the city has installed cycling city maps.
