Transportation is at a tipping point as the world urbanizes and cities become more complex. As the New Urban Agenda evolves and as challenges, needs, and aspirations change globally, new service models, technologies, business models, integration mechanisms, policy frameworks, and innovative narratives are rapidly emerging to address the transforming transportation landscape.
As an ICLEI EcoMobility Alliance city, the City of Quito will host an EcoMobility workshop in October 2016 during the HABITAT III International conference. The city will host delegates from the 20 EcoMobility Alliance cities along with delegates from various EcoMobility Alliance partners. The workshop will focus on creating sustainable mobility in cities, Alliance cities will discuss ways forward to create sustainable mobility in Quito.
The workshop will also feature sessions open for all participants of the Habitat III conference. In these sessions the Alliance cities will be joined by other city representatives, entrepreneurs, experts, and solution providers to deliberate on implementing sustainable urban mobility in cities. The purpose of the workshop is to utilise the array of international expertise to provide practical and innovative solutions that improve the quality of Quito’s ecomobility.
The Sustainable Cities Pavilion HABITAT III and the Pontificia Universidad Católica will be the venues for the EcoMobility Alliance events.
The main purpose of this event is to bring ambitious cities together to collectively deliberate on ecomobility and find ways forward to implement ecomobility in cities. The event will also create and strengthen interactions with representatives of national governments and to discuss cooperation of national, regional and local level for sustainable urban development planning and implementation.
Peer-to-peer activities in the event help Alliance Cities advance their urban mobility agenda and inspire local leaders to make public transport safer, create public spaces, and increase safety for bicyclists. Cities have also defined areas for further work in various themes, including urban logistics, shared mobility, and the identification of a more evident link between mobility and health.
The thematic focuses will be on issues, approaches, & ground-breaking efforts of leaders in the urban mobility.
The event will also consist plenaries (each can be attended independently), workshops, key note speeches and round table discussions.
The expected speakers are ICLEI EcoMobility Alliance city representatives, mayors and deputy mayors, academics, core partners and organisations with outstanding sustainable mobility results and researchers. Certain days and sessions are free to attend for all the Habitat III participants.
About 100 participants are expected. To manage the limited space interested participants will be able to register through the EcoMobility website.
