Public transport in San Miguel de Allende

One of the challenges in SMA are the cobblestones, which, though giving the city its personality, limit the use of bicycles and wheelchairs. During the weekdays there is a constant flow of cars to the downtown area. Public transportation has its peaks at school entrance. There is a constant movement of the 69,811 people that live in the head municipality of SMA (INEGI). During the weekend, approximately 20,000 national and international tourists come and visit. Sixty-six percent of them come by car, and about 6,880 tourists will stay for a night or two. This means that during the weekend, the city becomes saturated, and the main entrance closes up without any clear alternative.
